It’s time for Fall cleanup! Here are a few tips to keep in mind when mowing or mulching leaves:
- Fall cleanup is a fun time to involve kids in yard work, but please do not allow children to operate a mower or be in the area when an adult is mowing.
- Pro Tip: If you have a lot of leaves, set the front cutting height 1 or 2 notches higher than the rear to allow the leaves to pass under the deck for mulching.
- On guard! Keep all the protective devices in place when mowing grass or leaves.
- Easy does it; take care when walking on leaves; they can be slippery.
- Leaves can also hide toys, rocks, and wires; walk the area to be mowed looking for objects before mowing.
- Mow in dry conditions when cutting grass or leaves to reduce clogging.
- Play it safe and shut it off; please shut your mower down before clearing sticks or leaves from any part of the mower.
- It’s also just as important to keep your hands and feet away from moving components while mowing.
- Squeaky clean; after cutting leaves, it is important to clean grass and leaf debris from the mower to help prevent fires.
- Fall cleanup is usually the last time the mower is out for the season; check out your manual for Winter storage tips.
